news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080108/ap_on_hi_te/gadget_show_cadillacGM to unveil hydrogen-electric CadillacTue Jan 8, 1:18 AM ET DETROIT - General Motors Corp. will unveil a hydrogen fuel-cell-powered Cadillac crossover concept vehicle at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday. GM envisions the five-passenger Provoq going 300 miles on a single fill-up of hydrogen, getting 280 miles from hydrogen power and 20 miles from batteries. It would go from zero to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds and have a top speed of 100 mph. The aerodynamic Provoq's hydrogen fuel cell would charge lithium-ion batteries to power one electric motor for the front wheels and another for the rear. The vehicle could also be the basis of a replacement for the SRX, a larger crossover vehicle powered by V-8 and V-6 engines, Cadillac officials said. The Provoq has a solar panel in its roof to power accessories such as the interior lights and audio system, the company said. "All the people- and cargo-carrying capability customers expect in crossovers and SUVs is available in the Provoq, along with the premium attributes expected in a Cadillac," Ed Welburn, GM's vice president of global design, said in a statement. No date has been set to bring the Provoq to showrooms, nor has pricing been discussed, the company said.

The problem I have with these so called green technologies are this.......
#1. The same elites/ultra-rich who pollute the planet more than anyone........... who tell the rest of US to "reduce your carbon footprint" are telling us to buy "green" cars truck NO ONE CAN AFFORD.
Its totally pointless.
#2 The lower cost "green alternative" vehicles...tend to be slow, dangerous and FORGET IT if you get in a crash...you are done.
#3. We have technology hidden away that would completely eliminate thye need for fossil fuels...and for cheap but THE ELITE dont want us to have them. Why?
THERE IS NO MONEY TO BE MADE.
Just my 2 cents.

Tesla Motors has the best idea. The Roadster is the first out, which is rather expensive, but they plan on introducing an under $20,000 electric Lithium Ion soon. That is the way the go. The main problem is that most of the hydrogen fuel uses petroleum to extract, which keeps the Exxon machine going. Another promising concept is the hydrogen produced from bacteria. Now that is a real Green idea, and if one lives near a metro area, then non-polluting vehicles are the only way to go. Hydrogen has the potential to fuel large trucks, where as electric has the potential for rapid, Ford Cobra-type acceleration. www.teslamotors.com/www.wired.com/cars/energy/news/2007/11/hydrogen_bacteriaI would have to say that because a technology is very expensive doesn't mean we shouldn't embrace it. For instance, if you remember the Fairlight CMI sampler back in 1979. It cost $80,000, and only the rich could afford it. Then Emu came out with the $8000 Emulator. Expensive, but getting more affordable. Then Akai releases the Z8 sampler. 24 bit, 1 gb of ram, and under $1000, with 50 times the sampling space then the Fairlight. In fact the Fairlight was only an 8 bit sampler.
