The original modern Celtic Goth Duo. Dead Can DanceBrendan Perry Lisa Gerrard DCD has been the defining element in many circles of music. Few groups have been so influential and self-defining. Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry are the catalysts for Dead Can Dance who's music may be gothic, Celtic Lament, new age, world, ethereal, neo-classical and dark wave. These words simlpy cannot describe the awesome music this duo creates. Trying to catagorize or describe their music leaves one with a loss for words... it simply cannot be done.Song of the Dispossessed
The river is deep and the road is long Daylight comes and I want to go home
Awoke this morning To find my people's tongues were tied And in my dreams They were given books to poison their minds
The river is deep and the mountain high How long before the other side
We are their mortar Their building bricks and their clay Their gold teeth mirror Both our joys and our pain
The river is deep and the ocean wide Who will teach us how to read the signs
The earth is our mother She taught us to embrace the light Now the lord is master She suffers an eternal night
You blocked up my ears You plucked out my eyes You cut out my tongue You fed me with lies

The first time I heard them was in the early 90s. They were playing them on WBAI, in sets with newly discovered 808 State. It is pretty eerie music, and has a Stonehenge feel to it. They must have been influenced by these guys though, from the 60s...The Incredible String Band

To me..their music is so compelling, almost spiritual...especially the chanteuse Lisa's singing..is incredibly stirring and neurotically sensory music.I feel it hits areas of the brain other music cannot. Its either the instruments they use..the tone..or the singing..perhaps a combination of all.
Brendans very Celtic, masculine crooning is the perfect compliment to hers.
