This really angered me when I read this.

They’re so desperate to find influential musicians to support their flat earth theories that they’re forced to resort to taking band's lyrics out of context. Trent Reznor’s lyrics are notoriously sarcastic and performed in character.
The author of this piece clearly knows nothing (not a true fan) about the writing style of NIN.
Now review the lyrics to the entire song as a whole within the proper lyrical context.
The song is clearly about an idiotic Bush supporter who has become terribly misinformed as a result of making the man who signs his name with a capital ‘G’ (George W.) his new God.
Reznor has spoken in multiple interviews about his concerns about the environment. A true fan would know this.
The NY Times review got it right.

....Songs are rife with sentiments long held by 9/11 truthers and anti-establishment types, such as Capital G:
Don't give a sh*t about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry bout no future generations and a
I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out
Here Reznor marginalizes global warming, stating that if and when a real problem develops, we'll take care of it...

I pushed the button and elected him to office
He pushed the button and he dropped the bomb
You pushed the button and could watch in on the television
Those motherfuckers didn't last too long
I'm sick of hearing about the have and have not's
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we are doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me
Well I use to stand for something
Well I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in the god of this war
and he signs his name with a capital G
Don't give a shit about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry about no future generations
And I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out
Don't try to tell me that some power can corrupt a person
You hadn't had enough to know what its like
Your only angry cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head cause you know that I'm right..alright!
Well I use to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
Theres a lot of me inside you
Maybe your afraid to see
Well I use to stand for something
Well I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in the god of this war

...The album’s first single, “Survivalism,” includes the phrase “Mother Nature is a whore,” a sarcastic expression of anti-environmentalism. And “Capital G,” which sounds a lot like an anti-Bush diatribe, has another deluded narrator we’re supposed to hate: “I pushed a button and elected him to office and a/He pushed a button and it dropped a bomb.”...
