Levon Helm, Drummer/singer of the fantastic Country/Rock/bluegrass group...THE BAND Levon Helm is back from throat cancer and alive and healthy...with a Brand new solo album. Dirt Farmer. levonhelm.com/store/page2.htmlGrammy Nominated Levon Helm’s first solo, studio recording in 25 years, Dirt Farmer. Levon sings and plays drums, guitar and mandolin on the CD, accompanied by Larry Campbell on guitars and fiddle, and the voices of Amy Helm and Teresa Williams. The record explores songs Levon learned as a boy in Arkansas and others in that style. “Growing up on a cotton farm in the Arkansas Delta, Dirt Farmer rings true to home,” Levon said. “Amy encouraged me to go all the way back and try to record some of the family songs from home that we always loved best.” The record reveals the essential beauty of traditional songs like “Little Birds” and the Stanley Brothers’ “False Hearted Lover Blues,” and takes a new look at Paul Kennerley’s “A Train Robbery,” Buddy and Julie Miller’s “Wide River To Cross” and another sentimental favorite, Lauralyn Dossett’s “Anna Lee.” *** A must for any THE BAND fan or anyone who likes these categories Americana Folk Country Bluegrass Appalacian Rockabilly

Levon had a small part as an expert in ballistics,in the movie The Shooter. He had a line in that movie that had me in stitches, this is in reference to conspiracies,"Just when you finally got it figured out, everything changes." Nice to see you posting again Mech. One of my favorites from the Last Waltz. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZY5n1lHPMo

Thanks increase...good to hear from ya'. Yeah...That song is amazing because it tends to paint a perfect picture. Incredible 3 part harmony vocals, guitar, keys and horns. I was lucky enough to see the last remnents of The Band in late 89 and 92 befor Rick Danko died.. They were good. Only 2 members left...Levon and garth. Levon helm is doing "the midnight ramble" shows with loads of musicians who play the same type of stuff at his home/studio in Woodstock NY. tickets are like 125 dollars...but limited to about 200 people per show. I might go to one with my brother this summer www.levonhelm.com/about_ramble.htmtheband.hiof.no/band_pictures/mr_02-11-2006.html

Music from Big Pink was always my favorite album. WNEW-FM used to play this on a regular basis, especially Allison Steele. At the time the playlist was Hendrix, Lothar and The Hand People, Richie Havens, Ultimate Spinach, The Nice, and so many other great musicians. BTW, Bob Dylan painted the cover to Big Pink.

Eric Clapton was interviewed about the late 60's period....and he said when he heard big pink....the album changed his life completely. Yep, especially that awesome intro to "Chest Fever". What was great about that time was that electronic, folk, acoustic, jazz, classical, hard rock, blues, bluegrass, psych, and space rock could be appreciated by all. It was like when I saw John Hammond the blues guitarist open for Steppenwolf, or Edgar Winter open for Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. One of the best was Richie Havens and Lothar and The Hand People.

Yes...but Robbie has been out of the Band since the Mid seventies.
Hes the one who wanted to break up the Band....all the other members...especially Richard Manuel....wanted the band to stay together.
Eventually Richard took his own life because of not having an outlet for his art (some say)
