www.wsbtv.com/news/9293414/detail.html Woman Hit By Lightning While Praying Worried about the safety of her family during a stormy Memorial Day trip to the beach, Clara Jean Brown stood in her kitchen and prayed for their safe return as a strong thunderstorm rumbled through Baldwin County, Alabama.
But while she prayed, lightning suddenly exploded, blowing through the linoleum and leaving a blackened area on the concrete. Brown wound up on the floor, dazed and disoriented by the blast but otherwise uninjured.
She said 'Amen' and the room was engulfed in a huge ball of fire. The 65-year-old Brown said she is blessed to be alive.
Firefighters said its likely she was hit by a bolt of lightning that apparently struck outside and traveled into the house yesterday afternoon. She was found lying on the floor by her 14-year-old granddaughter.
Fire officials think the lightning likely struck across the street from the couple's home and traveled into the house through a water line. The lightning continued into the couple's backyard and ripped open a small trench.
A family member said he will no longer assume it is safe to be indoors during a lightning strike.
Dime-sized hail and wind gusts of up to 45 miles-per-hour moved across coastal Baldwin County. As much as three inches of rain fell in some areas in three hours.

Praying is usually nothing more than asking g*d for something. Most people that pray, just pray to damn much always asking g*d to intercede in their lives. And you know what happens to children who constantly bother their parents asking them can I have this and that. I said NO! Now quit asking! Funny thing is with all the chaos and destruction that Bush is reaping onto the world I would be pissed too if I were g*d and if I had to take time out to watch over her family at a day at the beach. What about the families massacred in Haditha? Leave g*d alone he’s really busy for Christ sake.

The well-known Roman priest travelled to pray with his mother in their country chapel at Palestrina near Rome Wednesday night . He broke off to change the flowers and the floor suddenly gave way as a previously undetected Roman well collapsed . Father Claudio Rossi, 61, a Jesuit who was vice-rector at Rome University, plunged 100 feet (35 metres) to his death . His 90-year-old mother was unharmed. Palestrina, a medieval hill town east of Rome, is famous as the birthplace of Renaissance composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina .

"The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," the official said. "A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery." The incident, Sunday evening when the zoo was packed with visitors, was the first of its kind at the attraction. Lions and tigers are kept in an "animal island" protected by thick concrete blocks.

Prayer can be an electrifying experience for sure but so can fishing. pressherald.mainetoday.com/news/local/060602lightning.shtmlFriday, June 2, 2006 Man hurt in Sebago Lake lightning strike A Haverhill, Mass., man was struck by lightning and seriously injured Thursday when a sudden thunderstorm hit Sebago Lake State Park, police said. David Parsons, 47, had abandoned fishing plans and was walking away from the lake Thursday afternoon after heavy rain had swept through the area. Witnesses say a bolt of lightning struck the fly-fishing rod Parsons was carrying, blowing him up in the air, said Capt. William Rhoads of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. Parsons' shoes were found 50 feet away from where he was lying. FYI: David Parsons is going to make it but he has no immediate plans on going fishing anytime soon.

I wonder if the guy was praying for fish to bite?
I had an Aunt who was struck by lightening back in the 50s, and she just got singed, and shook her head. I also had another aunt who was blown across the room by a leaking propane pilot in a stove. I came into the room after all the pictures were knocked onto the floor, and she was sitting on the floor, directly opposite the stove, with her hair singed and her face all red. This one, just got up, and continued what she was doing.

"I wonder if the guy was praying for fish to bite?" ________________________________________
I'm thinking he was just heading for a cold beer when he got zapped, he and his fishing buddy had just come in off the lake to get away from the fast approaching storm, obviously he didn't move faster than the storm.
We have fools up here every summer that get struck by lightening, campers, golfers, fisherman, people on party barges, hikers that insist on hiking and camping above tree line during a thunder storm, rock climbers, mostly the tourons but some local Budweiser brain trust as well.
We get some hellaious thunder and lightening storms up here and if your out in the great out of doors you have to use a bit of common sense.

Actor Jim Caviezel has been struck by lightning while playing Jesus in Mel Gibson's controversial film The Passion Of Christ. news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3209223.stmTo play Jesus I would think someone would be in an "altered state" and also praying to God not to get struck by lightning!
