After reading about "They Live" on Alan Watt's website, "Cutting through the Matrix", and the very high recommendation that he gave this film on his website, and in a number of his talks... www.cuttingthroughthematrix.com/movies.html"Science fiction movie portraying the system from a special VIEWpoint by the use of scientifically designed spectacles to show the subliminal behind common symbolism." ...I finally got to look at it last night, even though it was filmed back in 1988. The movie was excellent, and parallels quite closely what is going on today in our world. The theme here is about a global conspiracy and also of waking up to it, people's reactions to waking up, and the fact that most humans in our society are now in a deep trance, or state of sleep... elements of which I'm sure most on this website are aware of. If you can get a copy of this film, I highly recommend viewing it. I think that most here will see things that they can relate to in it, and hopefully, clean the "doors of perception" just a tad more, for those who view it. The Plot... The ruling elite of the world are aliens in disguise, their aim being to keep humans in a state of mindless consumerism. Billboards, store signs, magazine covers--all bear subliminal messages to OBEY, to CONSUME, to have NO INDEPENDENT THOUGHT. Money itself says THIS IS YOUR GOD. But worst of all, with these glasses you see which of us are really hideous, bug-eyed aliens. And in case you haven't guessed yet, I'll let you in on a little secret: they're all Republicans! This movie will appeal to anyone with a interest in politics as it is a classic example of the true nature of capitalism and the way in which its true goal is to set people against each other and to control the masses with consumerism. Roddy Piper plays a drifter who hooks up with a bunch of shanty-town dwellers. Inadvertently he becomes aware of an alien conspiracy which has been in effect on Earth for years. Produced while Carpenter’s career seemed to be in a lull, this is nevertheless one of his most enjoyable outings; a snappy-paced romp that stays offbeat until its closing frames. What’s probably most appealing about THEY LIVE is that it confines its global-conspiracy storyline to a radius of a few miles and a timespan of a few days. Carpenter, taking a cue from his own favorite SF films of the 50s, realizes that he doesn’t need to play it big – further proof that his best work is with restricted budgets. Consequently, the most memorable moments are the simplest: Piper taking a slow walk down the block, newly aware that it is replete with aliens; Piper and work buddy Keith David stubbornly duking it out in an alley; Piper being struck by a woman he has taken hostage. THEY LIVE is based on a (very) short story by Ray Nelson but also borrows from the Devourers in Fritz Leiber’s Lankhmar stories, positing aliens not as intergalactic warlords or rapacious monsters, but as the ultimate force in asset stripping and insider trading. In this scenario, Earth will be destroyed economically. The twist is that most of the population are unknowingly contributing to its downfall. Carpenter throws in references to various forms of mass inculcation: subliminal persuasion, Communism (which the human rebels are branded in order to turn the public against them), propaganda, evangelism (the rebels broadcast from a church, and one of them is a street preacher), and most pointedly, consumerism. With this in mind, the invaders are credited as ghouls in the end titles – those who would feed off the dead. It points the direction of the film’s satire: that media-induced conformity has left us so drained of individuality/vitality that we have let ourselves become ripe for the harvesting (Since Carpenter has already worked with aliens, vampires, and ghosts, THEY LIVE could be seen as his ‘zombie’ picture). The scenes of SWAT teams and black helicopters moving in on innocent people to dissipate them and uphold the crippling Capitalist system is reminiscent of the events in Seattle in 1999 and Genoa in 2001. As with all Carpenter’s films, this one is great to look at – he prefers to take his horror out of the shadows and into the hyper-real with sharp, clear photography and sparkling color. Again, Carpenter contributes a businesslike, pulsating score (a touch bluesy this time around), and tosses in a minor trademark by having the characters watching an old horror movie on television. THEY LIVE has some shocks and violence but is mostly great fun – it’s no coincidence that Carpenter counts it among his own favorites.

I can honestly say that this is one of the VERY BEST movies that I've ever seen, Increase. It was hard to track a copy of this film down, none of our local video rental stores had a copy, and our entire library system only had two copies, I was finally able to get one of those copies from an outlying branch library. Fortunately, I can keep it till early next week, and plan to watch it a couple more times before I return it. There's a LOT of stuff being said here, and I agree with Alan Watt; "one needs to view this movie many times to truly appreciate it."...- just paraphrasing.
For those that haven't yet seen it... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND tracking down a copy and viewing it. It is SO RELEVANT to our situation today, to those who are waking up, those who are just beginning to wake up, and what is going on in our world today. And the reaction to those making this bizarre discovery is so familiar also... shock and horror! I find it interesting that John Carpenter casts the oppressors as GOULS!!! Sure says a LOT, doesn't it? Also, another interesting point... one of the first questions that one asks when they realize what's happening is...
"How long has this shit been going on?!!!"
...Sounds all too familiar!!!

They Live is one of the best of these kinds of movies. Mech and i have been talking about this for years. In fact, look at his avatar. We first saw it in the late 80s, and even then, after going through Nixon, Reagen, and then current mini-Hitler, GHW Bush, knew it was relevant.
The 10 minute fight scene is bizarre, and the takeoff of Max Headroom's video pirates is also a welcome concept. I think They Live was influenced by Max Headroom, Blade Runner, 1984, and a host of others, but it retained that 50s feel, reminding me of "The Slime People".

I agree, the ten minute fight scene was extremely bizarre. What a way to get somebody to put on the glasses and WAKE UP!!! From what I gather, it took three weeks to plan out and film this particular scene! Apparently, Roddy Piper, the main actor in the movie, was a former heavyweight wrestler, and John Carpenter picked him for this role because "he had life written all over his face". And yes, one look at this guys face, even though he is relatively young at the time of the filming (1988), tells you that this guy HAS been around the block a few times!
Also, as far as being influenced by other films, don't forget "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"! I saw strands of this film running through the whole movie...; that whole concept that society is being infiltrated/overrun with "off worlders", and, except for a few brave, insightful people, the vast majority of the human population is either too thick headed, or stupid, to simply open up their eyes and actually SEE what is REALLY going on! Once again... the whole theme that most people would rather live their lives with their heads in the sand, and walk around in an unhappy state of delusion, instead of what "really is", runs through this entire film.
Another thing I found interesting about this movie was that it looked at many aspects, and many suspicions that I have had about the media, and subliminal persuasion that really haven't come to the forefront yet... yet a lot of these issues (I won't go into my rant on them here!) were gone over in great detail in this film. And, as is so clearly pointed out in this movie, the media is, once seen for what it truly is, IS the main culprit in keeping the population dumbed down and in a deep hypnotic trance. I loved the scene at the end where we find out that all of this mind control is being supplemented by broadcasting "waves" to the overall population from a device atop a high building. Sounds a lot like HAARP, and some of the purposes that it is now being used for. All the more reason to stay away from the mainstream media..., be it in print, audio, or video form!
I'm beginning to view this move more as "science fact" than as "science fiction". If only more people would just WAKE UP!

"They", in all likelihood, already have those of us who disagree with them, and their psychopathic policies, on their "NEXT" agenda... Will the "end scenario" come with a biological/chemical aerosol attack from the sky, either from, or sanctioned by our very own government, or, once martial law has been declared; will it come in defending my home and loved ones against these oppressors, or will it be in a FEMA concentration camp, as many in this country are already starting to wonder? In many respects, and in a very strange way, our situation here in real life is actually a lot worse, and somewhat stranger, than even was portrayed in "They Live". There were a number of outdoor scenes filmed under clear skies, and I don't recollect seeing a single chemtrail or aerosol blitz during the entire movie! I wonder if Carpenter's "ghouls" had a MASSIVE population reduction program presently gearing up and starting, like we do here in the U.S., and other parts of the world,... and RIGHT ABOVE everybody's heads in broad daylight, to mention just a FEW of the many pleasant possibilities now facing us from the REAL ghouls who are now running OUR country? Ah yes..., fact IS stranger than fiction... at least it is HERE..., on Bizarro World!

I thought so!!!! I recognized the avatar,I told my husband about it we LOVE that Movie!!! I really don't think we even need the glasses now days they are pretty recognizable. Also I think we will and probably already have had to wrestle with others to JUST LOOK, like he does in the alley with his worker buddy,I swear sometimes it feels like a wrestle of minds just trying to make others see the bullshit that is everywhere. Speaking of that I hear all these people talking about how great Kerry is and how he doesn't agree with Bush etc. I see this actor is all acting his part and I just think to myself I don't trust any of it I think he is gonna be act III.I can't believe how many people don't even know he is related to Bush or that he was a skull&Bones member,Like people (some)are awake enough to know that the skull and Bones background isn't good yet they don't study enough to know who was and who wasn't so when they go to vote it really is just the same loop being knotted up again with a different face. Take care all. chickster

Chicky, it took me a real long time to finally track down and reserve this copy, but it was WELL WORTH IT... even the trip out to pick it up!!! As I said earlier, this is one of the best movies that I've ever seen. And yes, I agree with you..., sometimes it's a true battle of the minds just to get people to open up their eyes, even just a little bit... but, the satisfaction in knowing that you have succeeded in getting through to somebody is well worth the "fight"... although I have been put in the paths of some pretty stubborn and narrow minded people lately. Sometimes I think these really thick people actually prefer to remain asleep and in their cozy little media induced trance!!!
I agree with you about Kerry. I don't think that he was really THAT stupid to make that remark unintentionally, and I had the exact same thoughts about "Skull and Bones" as you did! They are BOTH members of this elitist, occult club, and from the information that we are now learning about it, I'm sure that Kerry's loyalties are with Skull and Bones, and NOT with America! This "mistake" of Kerry's was nothing more than a last ditch set-up by the Republicans and Kerry as well! All I can say is that he is a really poor actor, as he didn't fool me for one second either! And it's SO frustrating that so few people see through this, and are not calling him to task on this whole thing, and Skull and Bones as well! During the last election, when BOTH bush and Kerry were asked about Skull and Bones on a number of different occasions, they wouldn't answer ANY of the questions put to them..., they ALWAYS either dropped, or changed the subject, or turned it into a joke. If somebody is going to be president of this country, THAT ALONE should have disqualified BOTH of them from running for president! But virtually NOBODY saw, or caught this! What a shame and what an opportunity lost! But that shouldn't surprise us when one realizes that ALL of these elections are completely and totally set up and rigged now. Kerry and bush are BOTH working for the SAME organizations, organizations that DO NOT have OUR best interests at heart, and are NOT working for the benefit of the average tax paying, hard working American citizen!

"Waking up to THIS REALITY is more fascinating than any science fiction movie you can ever see!" -Alan Watt From his latest talk; The Science of Gender Conflict Manipulation for the Planned New World Order Eradication of the Family Unit; Part one, November 1, 2006 www.cuttingthroughthematrix.com/index.html

That is where I diverge with Alan Watt, Henry Makow, and others. Gender manipulation is a term like "Co-Dependency", that was created by a macho societal role player, that can't handle woman having power, or gays and lesbians having any function in society. I think basically is that societal hormones are changing, and perhaps it is evolution, giving way to androgynous beings, where there is no more dominance and submission, and children will come into the world by more than one option. Watt and Makow would have drunk, violent heterosexual families beingable to adopt, and caring homosexual partners shut out of adoption. Now that's Bizarro World.
Usually these guys have the New World Order idea correct, but I have to sift through them very carefully, especially when I here stuff like "Paul McCartney and Tim Leary were CIA fronts", Marijuana and LSD are CIA fronts", "Woman's Liberation and Gay Rights are CIA fronts", and "Environmentalists are CIA fronts".
personally, I begin to wonder the motivation and who exactly funds them. Sort of like mmmmbarium, greenman, and others ,who come here and pretend to be our friends, yet are here to throw in monkey wrenches, and are subliminally disrupting every humanistic idea we have thought for thousands of years.
What is destroying the family unit is alcohol, linear drugs, finacial pressures, crackpot male sky god religions, disease, and a corrupt government, not woman's rights and gays

What you say makes a lot of sense, and yes, there are quite a few things that I don't agree with him on. And yes also, I think he is full of it when he talks about Timothy Leary being a front for the CIA and says that David Icke and Michael Tsarion are working for the NWO. In many respects, this all simply reveals to me shortcomings on his part. BUT... he IS what he appears to be, he is sincere, IS the real deal, and, he does have a lot of important information to share.
From the much larger perspective, he is doing a LOT of good for our cause, and we could use a lot more people like him, people who aren't afraid to come out and speak their mind on the level that he is doing, and has done. When I saw those photos that he took of the two black helicopters hovering ominously over his home last summer, trying to intimidate and scare him out of what he is still now doing, I gained a lot of respect for this person. And this isn't the first time that this has happened... they've attempted a lot worse things to him. Check out his website on this, and listen to his talks on this as well. Some of the stuff is pretty shocking, and makes one realize all the more that we are truely living in a dictatorship, run by cruel, ruthless people, and they obviously DON'T LIKE people who speak the truth about them. Yet, in spite of all of these NWO scare tactics, he is still out there on the front lines, trying to awaken and educate people as to what's really going on, pointing important, everyday things out to us that we wouldn't normally notice, and sharing what he knows with all of us.

The only researcher right now who is making more and more sense to me now is Michael Tsarion.
Many of the others just seem to be running in circles by comparison.

Tsarion is good. He stays out of social-sexual politics, and deals with the larger picture. Sort of like Robert Anton Wilson in a strange way.
