Can you trust the Government with your drinking water? **************************** Did EPA mislead public on water? Agency audits suggest reports overstated utilities’ record By Guy Gugliotta THE WASHINGTON POST www.msnbc.com/news/948891.asp?0cl=c3&cp1=1WASHINGTON, Aug. 6 — The Environmental Protection Agency’s inspector general is investigating whether the agency is deliberately misleading the public by overstating the purity of the nation’s drinking water, according to EPA officials and agency documents. THE INQUIRY was launched June 18, five days before then-EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman released the “Draft Report on the Environment,” which stated that “94 percent of the population served by community water systems were served by systems that met all health-based standards.”<br>Internal agency documents, however, show that EPA audits for at least five years have suggested that the percentage of the population with safe drinking water is much lower — 79 to 84 percent in 2002 — putting an additional 30 million Americans at potential risk. ****************** GET YOUR WATER FILTERS ladies and gents. The answer is NO! That's why we have a well! But it won't last forever from what the studies are showing! I say invest in salt water osmosis plants! Yes, there is such a thing! With all the melting going on, it should be a great source of water for all people now and in the future! Don't let the government touch it! Keep it in co-ops and in private control! No deregulation! The question of water would be a good one to pose to the new presidential candidates, wouldn't it? bc
