JIMI HENDRIXOne of my personal favorite artists of all times. The very definition of black soul, black psychedelic consciousness, guitar wizardry...ad infinitum. Anger, he smiles, towering in shiny metallic purple armour Queen Jealousy, envy waits behind him Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground Blue are the life-giving waters taken for granted, They quietly understand Once happy turquoise armies lay opposite ready, But wonder why the fight is on But they're all bold as love, yeah, they're all bold as love Yeah, they're all bold as love Just ask the axis My red is so confident that he flashes trophies of war, and ribbons of euphoria Orange is young, full of daring, But very unsteady for the first go round My yellow in this case is not so mellow In fact I'm trying to say it's frigthened like me And all these emotions of mine keep holding me from, eh, Giving my life to a rainbow like you But, I'm eh, yeah, I'm bold as love Yeah, yeah Well I'm bold, bold as love (hear me talking, girl) I'm bold as love Just ask the axis (you know its everything) Yeah, yeah, yeah!

I would like to say that it was the Jimi Hendrix Experience" that was one of my favorite early psych bands. Their rhythom section was described as a "Freight train" of sound, exactly what Jimi needed to put up his sound in front of. When Jimi went with Buddly Miles, the sound was essentially gone. Of course Jimi was a pioneer in using the guitar in some many different ways. He had to go to England, because he felt the US was too Conservative to accept his new style, which was evolving from the Blues. We were in Electric Ladyland studios in NYC, in 1972, right after he died, in on The Rasberries first album. The stusio had aliens all over the walls, space pictures everywhere, and the bathroom was thousands of nudes of both sexes, laquered over so it was like wallpaper. You could FEEL his presence everywhere in the studio.. Did you also know that Jimi was going to play in ELP. and the band was to be called HELP? He died during those rehearsals, and I hear there is some recording of it, on cassette tape. Man, what that would be worth. I always tried to imagine the Greatest Guitar player in Rock teaming up with the greatest keyboardist! Favorite album: Electric Ladyland, especially "1983 ... (A Merman I Should Turn To Be)"

Wow...great info! I was even born when Hendrix was around...but his music really appeals to me...yeah you are right..his early stuff is the most trippy stuff. Electric Ladyland is one of my Fav's too but I still likee this one the best for some reason......

There's contradictory stories on the band HELP. Some say it was three weeks from happening, and then he died, others say one session, while others say a passing thought of the Four of them. Back in the early 70's, the most frequent rumor was 1 session. Could have been the Band of the Century.
Axis:Bold as Love is a very ground setting album. If 6 was 9 is always a favorite. Really the first three albums was their best. It was like Procol Harum, three great albums, and then downhill, where today they sound like any bar band.
Anyway, I can remember in early 1968, listening to Electric Ladyland, Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper's, Pink Floyd "Saucerful of Secrets", Moody Blue's "Days of Future Passed", and The Stones "Satanic Majesties Request". Throw in Blood, Sweat, and Tears 1st album with Al Kooper, and Cream's "Disaeli Gears", and it's a time of music very distant, yet very near.
Psychedleic music could be many forms, but there was one thing in common. Hence the name of the genre.

Dam, you lived through a changing whirlwind of music but yet got to experience it at the same time. Sgt Pepper's was the first Beatle album I bought, what a trip. Speaking of which have you ever let the record keep playing after a day in life? about 40 seconds after the song there is a really twisted backward, yet repeated phrase. Do you know which I am speaking of? John Lennon's death is what set me out to being heavily in music, what an influence he was to my younger years, it wasn't until he died from the shooting that I realized what a vacuum there was.

The straights really got nervious about artists like Jimi Hendrix. He was so confident about his uniqueness. And then with the power of 'the Experience', who knows if TPTB did him in. There was a philosophy amoungst TPTB to do away with the Messiah's, the Leaders. Thus, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janice Joplin and Brian Jones were mysteriously snuffed out in their prime. This is what helped to disperse the energy of the sixties psychedelic pop culture. They can't keep the creative minds down though. Jimi made his mark and the energy is still around, only more in the underground culture.
