To: All Gastronamus health minded people Re: Organically Grown Peanuts
So, I was at a health food store a few months ago and picked up some peanut butter. Folks in line ahead of me were also buying peanut butter. I initiated a conversation with checkout lady cause' she was kinda' pretty & nice. Talking about peanut butter, she claims that the way organic peanuts are grown contain a mold of some kind. Hence, all of the "organic" peanut butters have levels of mold in them. And even stated a connection with that and liver(or was it kidney?) cancer.
I did a little online research on this, and couldn't find any connection between moldy organically grown peanuts and human cancers. Maybe she was just a little paranoid, I don't know.
Does anybody have anything on this?

I think Sweden and Norway have banned Raw Paenuts
Peanut allergy is a type of food allergy. It is a hypersensitivity to dietary substances from peanuts causing an overreaction of the immune system which may lead to severe physical symptoms for millions of people[1]. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America estimates that the majority of pediatric and adult food allergy patients have a peanut allergy.
Prevalence among adults and children is similar (around 1%) but at least one study shows it to be on the rise in children. 25% of children with a peanut allergy grow out of it. It is usually treated with an exclusion diet and vigilant avoidance of foods that may be contaminated with whole peanuts or peanut particles and/or oils. The most severe peanut allergy reaction is called anaphylaxis and is an emergency situation requiring immediate attention and treatment with Epinephrine.
The 2005 death of a Canadian girl highlighted the danger and spurred many parents to speak out about the dangers from such seemingly mundane matters as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at schools or peanut shells on the floors of restaurants.
Some peanut allergy symptoms include: atopic dermatitis (eczema), urticaria (hives), asthma, anaphylactic shock, and various swellings of the digestive tracts.
As with most allergies, avoidance is the key. All labels for foods, medicines, cosmetics, creams, and ointments should be read. A history of allergic reactions after consuming a peanut may suggest an allergy.
While several companies have developed promising drugs to counteract peanut allergies, trials have been mired in legal battles.

Hey Swamp Gas, Thanks for the detailed reply. Well, I certainly have heard of the "allergies" to peanuts. What I heard, though, was a particular type of mold in the way that organic peanuts are grown. Are these molds tied to organic or non-organic? Maybe it doesn't matter, either way.
Whoa. Swellings of the digestive tracts? Geez.
Personally, I've found that almond and cashew nuts and butters are so much better than plain old peanuts. Are they healthier and less prone to these allergic reactions? I don't know, but they sure taste good.
From what Swamp Gas wrote, it sounds like people are becoming more aware of these food allergies. And it sounds like peanuts, in particular, are a large cause of these. The difference between organic and non-organically grown peanuts might not be much, then, except for maybe pesticides used.

Organic the ONLY way to go. We are growing our own sunflower sprouts again, and we used to have trays of wheatgrass, sunflower, and buckwheat growing. Almonds and Pine Nuts are your best nut proteins.
We drink Hazelnut and Almond milk and stay away from Soy Products. You just don't need as much protein as the medical establishment says you do. 60 grams a day is more than suffiecient.
