'Telstar is considered an unqualified success for AT&T. But then, without warning, the satellite falls silent. Radiation from a nuclear test back on Earth has destroyed Telstar's delicate circuitry. The satellite that captured the world's imagination is suddenly nothing more than a very expensive piece of space junk. Not long after the satellite is damaged, Meek's life, as if linked by fate, begins a long downward spiral. His obsessions with the occult and his sexual orientation make him an outcast in British society. An even-more devastating blow comes in the form of a frivolous lawsuit filed by a French composer who insists the melody to "Telstar" has been lifted by Meek.' quote from Meeksville. Very interesting, I learned two facts that I had not known before. 1- How the Telstar Satellite circuitry was destroyed by a nuclear blast test on Earth. 2- that a French composer was sueing Joe Meek for the Telstar melody. I feel bad that he had to end his life so tragically. Certianly his work has influenced many.

Noble Gas did a version of the original Space Rock song, Telstar, which was #1 on the international charts in Dec 1962. Considered by David Gilmore of Pink Floyd to be the song that kicked off Space Music in the popular sense. On this version is Bill Horwat of Creed Taylor Orchestra and Tiny Tim fame, on guitar, and Joey Welz of Bill Haley and The Comets assisting on 2nd keyboards, swampgas on Main keys, and Thetaloops on Vocals. www.noble-gas.com/telstar.mp3

Joe Meek also worked with Screaming Lord Sutch. Nice to be in such good company.
