In a preview of how a Kerry administration may approach labor relations, Sen. John Kerry is already using his candidacy as a "bully pulpit" to pressure companies into agreeing to union demands. Two weeks ago, we reported on a Kerry letter urging Wackenhut to agree to a card check/neutrality demand from the SEIU. Last week, Sen. Kerry wrote a letter to the CEO of bankrupt cable company Adelphia urging the company to reach "a fair agreement [with CWA] that will be positive for the workers, the community and the company." A CWA press release touted this as "Kerry Jumps into Adelphia Bargaining Fray." Earlier in the campaign, to assist the Graphic Communications union, Sen. Kerry wrote a letter to Qubecor World urging it "to remain neutral when it comes to its employees' choice to form a union. Despite labor's early ambivalence toward Kerry, actions like this are energizing labor support, which, in the words of AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, promises "the finest political effort in the history of the labor movement." For those of us who still beleive in Unions this is a great thing. My great great grandfather was in jail for being a union organizer the day my great grandmother was married. So it's in the blood.

As we said, Kerry will not be anywhere near as bad as Dumpya in domestic situations. We'll have to get the steel balls to roll at the horses if "It" gets in again.
