Town Meeting
As some of you may know from my previous posts that I work for one of the largest Shipping and Trucking firms in the world. It is not a US Based Company, but is in bed with the American Government in transporting arms to Iraq. They support the War in a financial sense/profits, and also, fighting terrorism, using much of the US Media rhetoric in their philosophy and administration.
I was at a Town Meeting with our newly appointed President, an American, who, as my employer, remains unnamed. He gave a Forty-Five minute talk, with Power Point slides and a PA system. Told us of the sad tale of the companies profit losses, since 9-11 and how the company took a conservative approach to the situation and thus fell short of the needs of the world, because there weren’t enough ships built, etc. And, that the Chinese are shipping to the US tons of goods, but the US is shipping very little back out. This is an indicator of how well this war and Nafta/Cafta and GATT have improved our economy. Ha!
This being said is no big surprise. They then, had a question and answer session. I was the first to raise my hand. My question was:
‘Our two US Presidential candidates in the recent debates brought up the issue of the security of our ports. What will happen to the ‘bottom line’ of our company if it is required to scan for nuclear weapons being brought into the country?’
His answer was,
“Oh, yes, right after the debates I was approached by a hoard of Journalists asking me the same question. The answer is, that we currently scan our cargo with a gamma ray, testing for density and this is our indicator. You see, if that tall guy gets in, we may as well forget any profits. Our company will have to buy 10 times the acreage to open each container and scan each package. It will never work. So we all better go out and vote for the right one.”
I wonder which side of the debate the owners of this company are on? Hmmmm? Yuk. It is very scary. They don’t give a s**t about whether there is a suitcase nuclear weapon coming into the country or not. They stir the pot up by bringing the weapons over there and then they leave our ports unsafe. Hey, thanks. In fact Gamma Density testers are not the same as Gamma Ray detectors. One checks for density, and one checks for emission of radioactive particles, which are very active before a detonation. The “Company” and Bush’s administration are going toward the cheap method. Their “logic” is that the lead would show up in density, which would be shielding the nuclear device. I don’t buy it.
As many have said, the American population is no more than a third world populace to be manipulated and kept at bay. I personally feel like the need to plan a change. So, that my blood, sweat and tears are not supporting this company and this country. We are supporting an Empire. My conscience is bothering me. Plus, the fact is we are not winning over in Iraq. These are people who have been protecting their homeland for thousands of years. And are not about to dance in the streets about us being there any time soon.
Kerry may help in some areas. I will vote for him, but if he gives more of the same aggression towards Iran and Syria. Backing up his connections to Israel and that maniac Sheron. Then, we will have to find a safer haven, soon? Or maybe build a fallout shelter. Here we go again.
The jury is still out on this one.
