I sure hope that the rest of it is just as good. When Tool's last album Lateralus first came out I really loved the first single Schism but then I bought the entire disc and I wasn't all that impressed with the other songs. That's the only Tool album that's ever done that to me.
I was shocked that one of my favorite bands may have jumped the shark on me. I have a feeling this new one’s going to change all of that. I have satellite radio, both XM & Sirius and they’ve been playing Vicarious a bunch on there. I recorded it using my encoding software and I listen to it on my Samsung MP3 player all the time. It really is a damn good song.

Do me a favor if you could CD. After you listen to it a few times tell me what you think of it. If you’re anything like me sometimes it may take a few times listening before you can completely get a feel for it. I’ve had albums that I really liked at first turn sour after the fourth or fifth time. Other times there’s discs that I didn’t care for very much in the beginning and then later it becomes one of my favorites after it grows on me. That’s why I always wait a while before I offer a personal review. For example, Tool’s Undertow I didn’t really like that much when I first bought it. At the time I was in to hardcore metal like I am now but that was all that I liked. Now Undertow is one of my all-time classics. My taste in music has really evolved and expanded in to different areas and genres. Anyway if you could rate it for me on a scale with a 1 being the worst, a 10 being the best that would be great. I haven’t bought it yet and I’ll use your input in helping me to decide whether to get it or not.
Thanks…….
I just ordered Nile's Annihilation Of The Wicked. It's super heavy but I love it.

Do you have broadband or dial up KT???

Unfortunately all that is available in my area is dial-up. We signed up for DSL Lite because we received a letter stating that it would be coming soon and it never panned out.
I don't know if you noticed that I posted about Napster being free again? You can listen five times before having to pay (if that is really "free"). Anyway I was going to try to listen to the new one there but didn't even have enough bandwidth to queue it up.

Well I'm not one for buying a lot of CD's.There is only a few bands out there that can do an album and i like most of the songs on the disk. Older metallica, Static-x, Pantera, theres a few others but you know what i mean..
This ones doing a pretty good job though 1-5 have got me hooked.
1. Vicarious 2. Jambi 3. Wings for Marie (pt1) 4. 10,000 days (wings pt2) 5. The Pot

What's number 5? Is the new tool heavier than their previous stuff or more melodic but in a heavy way? Do you like any of A Perfect Circle's stuff?
As far as liking an album from start to finish, how about GNR's Appetite For Destruction? I've always thought that to be one of the best hard rock albums of all time. I can listen to that all the way through and never want to click next.
I agree with you on the older Metallica. ....And Justice For All was great. What really turned me of to them though was when they went after Napster and file sharing networks. At some point their style became watered down and they started to sound too mainstream. They also tried to change their whole image. I remember the band Alice In Chains at the time was saying "friends don't let friends cut their hair" referring to their change. That was a different time though, it’s no longer a pre-requisite to have long hair in metal. Just look at Dillinger Escape Plan. They don’t even look like rockers, but they rock hardcore.

I think I'm going to buy it then. I can tell that you're a discerning music enthusiast. You've rated it pretty high so far. If nothing else I really like the Vicarious song. I do hate it when the radio over-saturates and overplays songs the way they do. It can ruin them sometimes.
Thanks for the evaluation.

Wings 1 and 2 are melodic along with lost keys,Intension,Lipan conjuring is some indian chant. None of its really hard core but the guitar really gets me. The real fact is I'm not a huge CD buying fan. Vicarious had me and most of the songs are up to par with that song IMO. I for one am not disappointed I spent the ten bucks...

I listen to a lot of music with my MP3 player with headphones. You'd be surprised at the ambience and subtle nuances of sounds you wouldn't notice otherwise that it can pick up.
I trust your judgment. I'll listen to the short preview clips at Amazon before I order it if they have them up.
That bouncing image cracks me up every time. It makes me think of that autistic kid that Bush took a photo op with and Bill Maher said he couldn’t tell them apart. Bush acts like he’s on Ritalin.
I've turned so many people in to fans of metal singlehandedly with the song One by Metallica. Kids that were in to Phish and Grateful Dead were even blown away by it. My step-brothers used to listen to rap, I played them that song and before you knew it they used it as their warm-up song before their basketball games & even played Pantera's Fucking Hostile at their school dance! ;D

It doesn’t surprise that your feelings about it changed. Always do. Tool always does have a habit of putting one or two tracks on there that just don’t seem to fit in. You know I was reading the lyrics to Vicarious and I figured out what it’s about….have you?
Check out the lyrics. It sounds to me like it's speaking to the sensationalistic Fox News, Aruba Factor, Duke rape type tabloid news that people are so engrossed in these days.
Whenever someone’s missing, murdered or raped the news covers every graphic detail and the world sits close by and swallows up every tid bit like a bunch of controversy starving bottom feeders. Marilyn Manson once said, “is adult entertainment killing our children or is killing our children entertaining adults”? I think that’s kind of what Vicarious is about.
I’m still not sure of the significance of 10,000 Days though? If you know, let me know.

No....not yet. I found this. You're right, it all ties together. www.glidemagazine.com/2/reviews1256.htmlTool’s signature elements, such as epic songwriting and grungy metal chops, return revamped in their new release, 10,000 Days, replete with the dark and borderline-creepy cover art one might expect from the band. As per usual, they involve latent, sophisticated references in their songs, including the genie from Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, “Jambi,” and 10,000 itself, which refers to the time period from the point at which Maynard James Keenan's mother (for whom he names track “Wings for Marie (Part 1)”) became paralyzed due to a stroke until the point she died. “The Pot” fuses together cynical lyrics and Maynard’s passionate vocal delivery with the hard edge of bassist Justin Chancellor. It's easily deemed commentary on irresponsible stoners, especially compounded with the imagery of “Rosetta Stoned,” but in a recent interview, guitarist Adam Jones acknowledged that the title refers to “the pot calling the kettle black.” Regardless, the album still seems to make several references to herbal substances.
The segue tracks between songs give an other-worldly, other-century feel until Maynard’s clear, stable voice brings us back to present-day. Combining everyday noises (rain, hospital noise, conversation and wind) with eerie synth effects, the resulting sounds provide an intriguing flow of energy that has its own momentum. Drummer Danny Carey is hard-hitting when needed and chaotic when necessary; he even gives a soft touch with the bongo-like beats, perhaps from his Vince De Franco electronic drum pad, in “Right in Two.” Overall, their continued uniqueness makes this disc another instant Tool classic taken a step further.

"The Pot" is about the hypocrisy we live with each and everyday..Not to sure what "Right in Two" is about yet, but man that song is taking over the No. 1 spot for me, kick ass song for sure, think I'm going to have to up my rating on that one to 9.5

Lost Keys fades into Roseta Stoned, which I'm pretty sure go together...
In Lost Keys you can hear a nurse and doctor talking about a man that just came in to the hospital, Roseta stoned Seems to be about alien abduction, or a bad acid trip , maybe the mans from the Lost keys' story....

I really like the lyrics of Right In Two. It makes me think of the religious right and wedge issues used to divide people "right in two" in to two opposing sides. These divisive issues create the “us vs. them” victim mentality which allows the politicians to step in and divide and conquer. Things like abortion, gay marriage etc. It also reminds me of the schism that exists within organized religion. No two churches of the same denomination even seem to agree on everything.
I was planning on going eventually to see if they have any movies. My Aunt from NY says she finds a bunch of up to date movies at the library in Syracuse, NY. Not sure what I can find in this highly Conservative area of Middle Tenn. though? Everything entertaining gets banned.
I see you're ratings have a changed a bit again? Looks like it's getting better. It'll be a while before I get it. I'm also looking to get the new anti-Bush Ministry CD. You probably already saw the link and lyrics I put up? I heard a bit of it on a commercial ad for the album on Headbanger's Ball. I liked what I heard.
